How to Build a Simple Lip-Care Routine

The first thing I ever made was a lip balm for my husband, Reggie. His lips were chapped all the time, nothing he tried helped for long, and I wanted to see if I could do better with simple, honest ingredients: beeswax, shea butter, mango seed butter, sunflower oil and a touch of vitamin E. That first small batch worked, Reggie became my first official tester, and it is the reason ReggieSach exists.

A good lip routine is simpler than the beauty aisle makes it look. It is one daily habit and one weekly habit.

Every day: balm

  • Apply in the morning, before you leave the house.
  • Reapply after eating and drinking, which wipes balm away.
  • Put a thicker layer on before bed. Overnight is when lips get the longest uninterrupted stretch.

Once or twice a week: scrub

If lips feel dry or flaky, a gentle scrub lifts away the flakes, and the balm that follows works better on smooth skin. Massage a small amount in tiny circles, rinse, and follow with balm. Scrub first, then balm. That order is the whole routine.

What I look for in lip products

Short ingredient lists I recognize, no sulfates or parabens, and honest labels. Our lip balms and scrubs are flavored, not fragranced, because they live on your lips. And because they are built on beeswax, they are not vegan, and I would rather tell you that plainly than dress it up.
